Lab work:

When our pets aren’t feeling well, they can’t simply tell us what is wrong or how they are feeling. Our hospital features an on-site diagnostic lab, which makes it fast and efficient to run a variety of blood and urine tests. In most cases, we can have results in 15-20 minutes. This means that often we can have a treatment plan in place before you leave the exam room.

Lab test for your pet may include:

  • Complete Blood Count: This looks for changes in red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. Changes can indicate problems such as anemia, infection, inflammation, and immune system problems.
  • Blood Chemistries: These tests assess liver function, kidney function, blood sugar, proteins, and electrolytes. Sometimes specific tests for the thyroid gland, adrenal gland, and pancreas are performed.
  • Microscopic evaluation of urine, ear secretions, and needle aspirates: These can assist in the diagnosis of urinary tract infections, ear infections, and differentiating between benign and cancerous tumors.
  • SNAP Tests: These in clinic tests are available for certain infections diseases such as Feline Leukemia, Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, Parvovirus, and Giardia. They may also assess diseases such as heartworms, pancreatitis and certain cardiomyopathies.
